Client: Scale8 provides Data Analytics and Tag Managers for websites. With a focus on data-privacy and open-source software, they’re a competitor of Google Analytics, among others.
Project: Scale8 hired me to write a SEO optimised blog on why Google Analytics isn’t GDPR compliant. This topic has been hot news in the sector this year in particular, since many European Data Protection Authorities have made their rulings. While the main objective of the blog was to inform people of the ruling against Google, Scale8 wanted to take advantage by presenting themselves as an ideal GDPR compliant alternative .
Approach: While already familiar with GDPR thanks to my experience in Ad Ops, I’m not someone who follows this industry news, so I first had to do some in-depth research. I focussed my research on where Google fell short of GDPR standards and the fines they faced, as well as how GDPR affects website owners.
I wrote the majority of the piece with little reference to Scale8, instead focussing on GDPR and the rulings against Google in order to show the audience how Google Analytics may not be the best choice for them. However, towards the end of the piece I did insert a paragraph on Scale8 to round out the piece by highlighting them as that ideal alternative.
Outcome: The client was happy with the work, and subsequentially hired me to write a series of blogs for them.
